FESTIVE CULTURE IN AN URBAN CONTEXT: AN OVERVIEW
Abstract
The article is devoted to the phenomenon of holiday culture in the context of the city. The text presents a review of contemporary Russian-language publications (2008-2023). The first part of the review considers publications devoted to holiday culture in general, the second - to urban holiday culture. The works of the first block argue that holiday culture is a serious social force. The festive calendar reflects the problems and trends in the development of the state. The works of the second block touch upon the issues of changes in urban space with the emergence of holidays and the evolution of the functions and meaning of the urban holiday. Urban holidays can be used as a means of stabilization of the state, consolidation of society and a place of socialization of a person. Thus, these publications raise a number of topics related to the phenomenon of urban holiday culture: holiday concepts, the evolution of the meaning, rituals and functions of the holiday, the content of the holiday calendar, the design of the city on holidays. At the same time, along with the increased attention to detail, they are characterized by non-systematic analysis of urban holiday culture. The concept of “urban holiday culture” has not received a detailed scientific interpretation in philosophical and cultural-philosophical aspects.
