FRIENDS, STRANGERS OR ENEMIES? NEIGHBORHOOD RELATIONS PRACTICES TENANTS OF APARTMENT BUILDINGS
Abstract
The article considers the socio-cultural phenomenon of “neighborhood„ as a manifestation of social interaction of people in the local area of residence. The purpose of the article is to conduct a comprehensive multifactorial analysis of the varieties and intensity of social interactions between neighbors. The features of social interactions of tenants of apartment buildings depending on the neighborhood range (stairwell, floors “above„ and “below„ the apartment, entrance, residential building) were also studied. The analysis of social practices of neighborhood relationships was carried out depending on the socio-demographic characteristics of residents of their property rights to residential premises. The conclusions presented in the article are based on the materials of an empirical sociological study aimed at analyzing neighborhood relationships and social activity of tenants of apartment buildings (questionnaire survey, May 2022, N =400 residents of apartment buildings, Tyumen). It is determined that residents of apartment buildings over 60 years old, men, apartment owners have the greatest satisfaction with neighborly relationships. At the same time, among the tenants there was minimal involvement in the practice of good neighborliness and disinterest in establishing and maintaining relations with the tenants of neighboring apartments. The closest social contacts are observed between neighbors on the landing and with residents of apartments located above and below. Less than half of respondents are annoyed by certain actions of neighbors. At the same time, they tend not to focus on this, not wanting to jeopardize the maintenance of long-term relations with neighbors. The practical significance of the data obtained lies in assessing the scale and varieties of manifestations of neighborhood relationships, analyzing the factors of neighborhood social practices and the risks associated with them.
