BARRIERS TO INNOVATION: AXIOLOGICAL GAP IN THE PERCEPTION OF CONTEMPORARY URBAN ART (OPINION OF YOUNG ARTISTS)
Abstract
Based on a series of interviews with young artists living or working in Moscow, the article attempts to determine how representatives of creative professions see barriers and prospects for the development of art, as well as what in their opinion is an obstacle to the development of the cultural environment in Russia. The authors proceed from the fact that it is first necessary to study the main areas in which the interviewed artists work, to understand the taboos existing in their environment and to analyze the experience of artists working with big business, foundations and officials. The study focuses on the “political” and on how artists themselves evaluate their creative statements. It turned out that modern artists define the problem of incorrect perception of their works by the public as the key one. The reason for the misunderstanding of the artists’ vision is the generational gap, lack of education or unavailability of art for certain categories of viewers. To further develop the research topic, it is planned to conduct interviews and focus groups with viewers (consumers) of contemporary art in order to find out the opinion of informants on the opposite side of the axiological gap and reveal their reasons for misunderstanding contemporary art.
