ARCHITECTURE OF “GLOBAL EVENTS” AS A CATALYST FOR URBAN DEVELOPMENT
Abstract
At present, strong urban transformations have become apparent, which have arisen under the influence of the forces of globalization, as a result of which a network of cities of a new type, called “global cities”, has been formed. However, most other cities are also undergoing cardinal changes in their architectural and spatial structure, which are trying to adapt to the requirements of globalization. In this regard, one can observe changes in the functional component of modern cities and the transformation of urban morphology. One of the new functions of cities, due to the influence of globalization, is the reception and holding of large events (also known as mega-events, global events, landmark events, symbolic events, etc.). Currently, a special group of cities has been formed, called “eventful cities” (eventful cities), which include not only the so-called “global cities”, but also cities of a lower rank in the global line. The authors study the changes in the architectural and urban development of the cities-regional centers of Russia, in which various global events were held.
