PROSPECTS OF DEVELOPMENT OF PUBLIC PEDESTRIAN SPACES IN THE HISTORICAL CENTER (ON THE EXAMPLE OF THE PROLETKULTSKAYA AND VOLGODONSKAYA STREETS IN VOLGOGRAD)

Abstract

The article discusses the relevance of integration of historical base buildings in the active social and cultural life of the modern city and formation of new public pedestrian spaces on its basis. The article considers peculiarities of creation, transformation of spatial and planning structure of historical development of Proletkultskaya and Volgodonskaya streets as a distinctive fragment of “Tsaritsyn” type of Volgograd’s development. The analysis of the preservation of historical objects, which have the state protection status has been carried out; quality of housing and non-residential stock and features of their modern use, the analysis of the status of improvement of the surrounding area; the social and historical significance of the territory and the potential for its further development in the context of the formation of a popular public pedestrian space - the center of attraction of the socially active citizens and tourists has been revealed.
