The article is devoted to the analysis of problems arising at the junction of urbanized urban environment and recreational areas in resort towns and devoted to the problem of the formation of architectural and planning approaches to the spatial organization of recreational and beach areas of seaside resort towns. The article proposes a system of architectural and planning principles for organizing coastal recreational zones in resort cities, based on the allocation of the coastal strip as a key area for attracting tourists and harmoniously combining the urban and resort spatial environments. The author introduces the definition of “first line of the sea” (a territory with characteristic features in the maximum functional band of 500-700 m from the sea). The area of the center of attraction of the tourist flow is the core in the formation of the urban image of the resort part of the city. The basic urban planning functions were structured and compared with unique recreational forms of environments, which made it possible to identify signs of spatial and functional imbalance. The article proposes a systematic approach to the organization of urban space based on a set of architectural and planning principles. The main goal of this approach is to achieve balanced urban development and create an optimal urban environment for various groups of the population, taking into account effective and urban planning.
