This article examines the comprehensive development of university campus planning, drawing on domestic and international examples of integrating outdated and closed spaces with no future development into open spaces through the creation of a new public space system. A typology of formation and functional purpose is identified using the example of the Institute of Architecture and Construction (IAAC) of Volgograd State Technical University and the adjacent territory. The challenges and characteristics of university campuses and the organization of their spaces are analyzed. Through an analysis of the existing IAAC territory of Volgograd State Technical University, a model of interaction between the university campus and the urban environment was developed. The territory of the studied facility in the project proposal reflects the incorporation of an open planning structure into the urban framework, creating a unified urban environment.
