It is shown that the urban microclimate, the building envelope, and the engineering equipment are closely interconnected and therefore should be considered as a unified energy system. Energy conservation paradoxes in the metropolis are identified. These paradoxes complicate the problem but allow for a more comprehensive and accurate approach to its solution. Overcoming these paradoxes will enable the development of scientifically sound solutions for environmentally friendly, carbon-free, bio-positive, energy-efficient, and resource-saving buildings, thereby promoting sustainable architecture.
