Abstract

Currently, urban centers in the Russian Federation are faced with the task of developing and developing domestic technologies, which involves the creation of a network of interuniversity campuses and the integration of educational and business spheres to achieve a synergistic effect. Not all cities have the ability to integrate a campus into a central dense urban structure. At the same time, in recent decades, modern megacities have faced a complex of problems related to the degradation of the territories of former industrial zones, high traffic load, air pollution and a shortage of recreational areas in conditions of densification of buildings. Inefficient use of territories and a low level of environmental safety reduce the quality of life of citizens. These challenges require a revision of traditional approaches to the planning and renovation of urban areas. As an alternative to traditional zoning (residential areas, industrial zones, city centers, recreational areas), a model of self-sufficient territorial units based on the mixed-use format is proposed. Its structure harmoniously combines residential, recreational, educational and industrial functions, ensuring maximum accessibility and integration of various spheres of life. This model will make it possible to comprehensively solve the accumulated problems in cities and create a more sustainable, energy-efficient and balanced urban environment. The article examines: the historical path of campuses in the world, from the origin of the term to its transformation today; the world experience of applying the university model in depressed territories and the analysis of the former industrial territory of the metallurgical plant "Krasny Oktyabr" Volgograd. The authors propose the placement of one of the options for an interuniversity campus on the former industrial territory with an assessment of the prospective development of the territory.
