This article discusses the integration of historic supporting buildings into the active social and cultural life of a modern city and the formation of new public and pedestrian spaces based on them. It examines the emergence and transformation of the spatial planning structure of the historic buildings on Proletkultskaya and Volgodonskaya Streets as a characteristic fragment of the Tsaritsyn period in Volgograd. An analysis of the preservation of historic sites with state conservation status, the quality of residential and non-residential buildings, and the characteristics of their current use is conducted, as well as an analysis of the state of improvement of the adjacent territory. The social and historical significance of the territory and its potential for further development are identified in the context of the formation of a sought-after public and pedestrian space – a center of attraction for the city's socially active population and tourists.
