Abstract

The article reveals one of the fundamental spatial archetypes — the archetype of the border. The relevance of considering this concept is due to the need to form the architectural space of a modern city, taking into account archetypal forms that are perceived
by subjects as unconditionally positive, which is important for creating a comfortable
urban environment. The purpose of the article is a socio—cultural analysis of the archetype of the border,
which, according to the author, is fundamental for his theoretical understanding. The sociocultural role of the "frontier space" and the importance of the archetype of the border for the formation of "transitional spaces" and multifunctional public spaces of a modern
city are revealed. The author defines the archetype of the border and provides examples
of its role in shaping architectural space.
