This article examines the phenomenon of festive culture in the urban context. It provides an overview of contemporary Russian-language publications (2008-2023). The first section examines publications devoted to festive culture in general, while the second focuses on urban festive culture. The first section argues that festive culture is a significant social force, with the festive calendar reflecting the challenges and trends of national development. The second section addresses the changes in urban space with the advent of holidays and the evolution of the functions and significance of urban holidays. A city holiday can be used as a means of stabilizing the state, consolidating society, and serving as a venue for individual socialization. Thus, this publication addresses a range of topics related to the phenomenon of urban festive culture: festive concepts, the evolution of the meaning, rituals, and functions of holidays, the content of the holiday calendar, and the decoration of the city during holidays. However, while these studies emphasize detail, they also offer a non-systematic approach to analyzing urban festive culture. The concept of “urban festive culture” has not received detailed scientific interpretations in philosophical and cultural-philosophical aspects.
