This article substantiates the relevance of a cross-disciplinary approach to the study and development of recommendations for improving the environment of urban open public spaces. Social aspects and the importance of considering their impact on the transformation of the role of traditional types of urban public spaces and the formation of new social connections are examined in detail. A review of the environmental aspects of the organization of urban public spaces examines the role of an ecocentric approach to their improvement and development. The importance of the natural and modified (cultural and anthropogenic) landscape as the basis for the relationship between people and nature is noted. A socio-ecological concept for the development of urban systems of public spaces is proposed, highlighting their distinctive features and typical structural elements, and presenting groups of measures aimed at creating a socially attractive (livable) public space.
