Problem Statement. This article examines the development of individual housing in cities located in the natural and climatic conditions of southern Russia, using Volgograd as an example. To address the challenges of effective development of individual urban housing, a study is conducted examining the social, economic, and environmental factors affecting the functional, architectural, and structural parameters of low-rise residential buildings and their plots.
Results. The prospects for the development of individual residential development in the urban architectural and spatial environment are identified. Indicators such as the density of housing stock and the area of low-rise individual development blocks and their location within the city's planning structure, the distribution of sizes and percentage of plot development, and the space-planning and structural solutions of individual residential buildings are examined. The study focuses on the adaptation of housing to specific natural and climatic conditions.
Conclusion. The results of the study suggest that individual urban housing has not lost its appeal for many city residents. Low-rise urban development has today become a type of urban housing that has acquired a protected status, guaranteeing protection from demolition as an important element of the city's residential area. Low-rise individual housing, preserving the traditions of folk architecture, has an incomparably higher potential for survival and adaptation in the face of climate change and the deteriorating environmental conditions of many regions of the Russian Federation.
