Currently, profound urban transformations, driven by the forces of globalization, have become evident, resulting in the formation of a network of new types of cities, known as "global cities." However, most other cities are also undergoing radical changes in their architectural and spatial structure as they strive to adapt to the demands of globalization. Consequently, we can observe changes in the functional components of modern cities and transformations in urban morphology. One of the new functions of cities, conditioned by the influence of globalization, is hosting and staging major events (mega-events, global events, landmark events, symbolic events, etc.). A special group of cities, known as "eventful cities," has emerged, which includes not only so-called global cities but also cities of lower rank within the global ranks. The authors examine changes in the architectural and urban development of cities—regional centers of Russia—that have hosted various global events.
